We went and chopped down our own Christmas tree (which I failed to get a photo of...at all) up near Sun Valley. It was a snowy but fairly warmish day. And we love doing anything out in the woods.
Of course it took us about 2 hours to get ready to leave the house that morning, about 2 1/2 hours to drive, and another 45 minutes to get hiking once we parked the car at our chosen spot. And of course, once we all got suited up and ready to go on the hunt Harper said she had to go to the bathroom. Right on cue. Good thing that girl likes to go potty in the woods. Really, she does.
Chase spotted the perfect tree way up on a steep hill. Harper, Aspen, and I were happy to stand under the shelter of a "humongous" tree and let him hike up the mountainside after it.
Chase got red velvet cupcakes for the drive...and Harper enjoyed them.
We went for this adventure on Chase's birthday (29!) so that night after we got back I whipped up one of his favorite childhood meals: Healthy Snacks. Lucky for me it's a cinch to whip up! Slice a Summer Sausage, some cheese, a couple apples and carrots and open a box of crackers. Perfect after a long day! (I made him a pie the next night for his birthday dessert, but felt like he had to blow out a candle on his birthday so we stuck it in the cheese. ha ha)
